Directors' 2007 Report to the Company
Annual General Meeting of 18 May 2007

Dear Company Members,
I welcome members of the Company, UNSW International
House Limited, to this forty-third annual general meeting. I have
much pleasure in presenting the report of the Board of Directors,
with their approval, which summaries a very satisfactory year for
the House.
The House has maintained a full occupancy, with
strong competition for places. There were more than two applicants
for the available vacancies. The residents appreciate the collegial
atmosphere in the House and have progressed well in their studies.
There is the usual mix of International and Australian residents,
male and female, graduate and undergraduates, detailed on page 6
of the Directors’ Annual Report.
The House once again traded at a surplus with a
net operating profit of $277,692. This is a strong performance given
the increased food cost as a result of the continuing drought. This
past summer saw the installation of a new solar power boiler and
bore water to the bathrooms and laundry facilities that should reduce
cost and improve energy efficiency. Internet and telecommunications
cost have been higher then desirable. With assistance from residents
and alumni a new internet service was installed that shows hopeful
signs of improving the service to resident and reducing the cost.
The Residents’ Society continues to be a
vital part of the House. The Seniors’ play an important role
with the Orientation Week and assisting the Master and staff through
out the year. The community service organization, iVision, engaged
in various activities including volunteer work with “Just
Enough Faith” a not-for-profit organization that serves hot
meals every evening in Hyde Park to the homeless.
The staff of the House, under the direction of
the Master, Dr Robert Lundy, continues to do an outstanding job.
Sincerely,
Dr Taufique Ahmed
