The philosophy of International House is to promote friendship, cultural and international understanding, and tolerance towards others. These values are reflected in our motto - ‘that friendship may prevail’.
The purpose of the scholarship is to provide financial assistance to residents who have demonstrated a commitment to the philosophy of International House and the value of “service above self” and encourage them and others to make a contribution to society. It is our belief and hope that residents who give of their talent and time to the life of the College will continue to make a contribution to the community in which they live after leaving International House.
As the phrase ‘cross-cultural understanding’ is becoming a cliché, International House is a perfect microcosm within which to prove that the gap between ideals and reality can be closed. As such, we believe that the International House Scholarship serves a truly unique and significant cause.
How is the scholarship awarded?
A scholarship of $1,000 towards the cost of student’s accommodation at International House is awarded in November each year. Current residents who will be continuing to reside in the house are invited to apply. A Selection Committee which comprises representatives of the International House Alumni evaluates written applications, conducts selection interviews and makes a recommendation to the Board of the International House Ltd. who, in turn, makes the final decision.
Applicants are assessed on the basis of their community involvement, demonstrated commitment to international friendship and cross-cultural understanding. Consideration will also be given to academic merit and financial need.
Application
All current residents who will be continuing to reside in the House are eligible to apply. Download and complete the Application Form for Scholarship and submit it to the office. To print the form you will require Adobe Acrobat Reader 5.0+ which can be downloaded for free. Applications close 30th September.
