The Foundation Day Dinner which is held on the first Friday evening of
session 2 is a tradition at International House. The event
commemorates the opening of the College during the second session
in 1968. The dinner is more formal than the Opening and Closing Dinners
of each session and member of the International House Company and Board
of Directors, many of who are ex-residents of the House, are invited to
attend.
This year, the consular generals from the various countries
represented in International House attended this auspicious event.
The Master of the College welcomes everyone with a toast to
international understanding. The Chairman of the Board introduces the
guest speaker, to address on the topic of: International Understanding.
This year, we are honoured to have UNSW Vice Chancellor,
Professor Frederick G Hilmer AO as our guest speaker for the night.
The President
of the Residents’ Society presents the response and many of the
residents perform during the dinner. The guests enjoy the opportunity
to return to the House and they appreciate the chance to interact with
current residents. Current residents serve as hosts for the guests by
greeting them during the reception and inviting them to join them and
other residents at their respective tables. The dress for the evening
is national attire or smart casual.
