Every year IH celebrates its foundation with the aptly named Foundation Dinner. This year held a special significance as it was the 40th anniversary for IH UNSW. It is a time for residents to reflect upon the purpose of the house and what they hope to gain out or their time here. Alumni are often invited to speak at these dinners to share their stories about the impact living at IH had on them.
As part of a special treat this year, residents from IH's first year along with the first warden were invited to help share their memories of the house's early years. Also displayed was the first ever sign in book was found dating from 19??. Some interesting facts were revealed about......
The guest speaker for the night was Professor Geoffrey Sherrington, who spoke about his experiences at the house, the history and context surrounding the founding of the IH movement worldwide, and the important impact the IH organisation has had on promoting international friendship and understanding.
As usual, the food was one of the highlights of the evening with the kitchen staff outdoing themselves to prepare sumptuous banquet for the residents and guests. Everyone was entertained by an exciting presentation by RESOC, showcasing the events of the house thus far, musical acts thanks to several current residents. The night ended with a spectacular performance by dancers Porshee Han and Elizabeth Lee who are also IH alumni.
A big thanks goes out to the efforts of RESOC, the MC's, the performers, the kitchen staff and all the others who helped make the evening such a great success.
